breadsticks in the pradas
i had dinner this afternoon with adrienne and melissa at a spot in racine. an old italian pizza shop ran by the same family since 1921. its in the heart of the ghetto in racine. there is seriously a uniformed policeman, not a security man but a police man, that stands outside the place and watches the parking lot.
they serve bread, saltines, and packaged breadsticks as the complimentary apetizer. i was thinking about when i was a kid and would take the extra sticks home with me. i felt the urge to put some in my purse today and share my story about my younger years. but i felt embarrassed. and even though these are good friends, i wasnt sure if i wanted to deal with them making fun of me.
about 20 minutes later adrienne mentions that when she was a kid she used to take the breadsticks home, like an neglected child. melissa and i both immediately chimed in that we did the same. adrinne placed two packages in her prada bag and we giggled. a few minutes later we decide to take more. then more. when all the breadsticks were in our purses, i moved on to the saltines. now i have a few packages of saltines in mine, which i think i will really appreciate in a few hours when i am wasted at some bar somewhere in milwaukee.
